Have you eagerly anticipated the dramatic 2012 transformation we have been promised by various traditions? Have you felt deep within yourself that it needs to happen? Is it resonating as a solution for the seeming despair our planet and her people are experiencing? Do you expect some “outside force” to sweep in and rescue us, even if it means years of extreme turmoil, as most “house cleaning” does entail?
Consider this: What if you do not need to wait for outside events and forces to transform you? Could such dependence be playing the role of a cosmic victim? It says, “Poor me, I can’t do it alone, so someone come rescue me!” So long as humanity looks to an outside God, Guru, Minister, Wise Woman up on the Mountain Top, Angel, ET or other outside power for rescue, humanity will remain small and at the mercy of everything. This mindset dictates that you eat, dance, pray, move, and “have your being” in a way that meets the strict tenets of that outside power, or you will suffer even more. Is this so far removed from the ancient people who worshiped a particular animal or tree in the forest? Perhaps they were as close to the truth as we are with our current religions, rituals, and precepts. We have simply become more complex…more sophisticated…more adept at hiding from our own personal divine power, by placing our personal power in the hands of something outside ourselves.
Why not just do it the highest way now? Today? This moment? You are an individualized aspect of that outside Source of creation. You already know what to do – how to act in harmony with others, how to eat healthy food, how to honor the planet, how to respect animals and plants. You have heard it from your parents, community, schools and society. Libraries and the internet are filled with advice, guidelines, suggestions, and techniques to be your best. Many people have memorized verses in their religious traditions that contain high wisdom. Are you practicing them daily? Intentionally? Are you deeper in your spiritual practices than you were a year ago?
If you are not living this way, why not? What is going on that causes you hold back from being your own magnificence? Is it because no one else is doing it? Are you afraid you won’t fit in with your family or friends anymore? Will you have to choose appropriate action instead of spontaneous reaction to people and events? Is it easier to say “This is just the way I am” than it is to become “This is who I choose to be”?
In upcoming articles I will suggest why we are not motivated to be the person we know deep within we are meant to be….and some clues to help all of us surmount our greatest obstacle…ourselves! I will be requesting you to take action and comment back here with real life examples of your experiences as you move forward. I’ll be doing it along with you – it’s how I live my life – daily focused on one more step forward. No one is alone. We can do this – together!
